Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The current school year I teach first grade. I loop with my students, which means I had the same students in Kindergarten last year followed up with them in first grade and I will continue with them to the second grade. My students' ages range between 6 and 7 years. Currently I teach 22 kids, 11 girls and 11 boys. 80% are ESL learners. All 22 though have great need for any possible English Language enforcement such as a classroom library. I, as a devoted teacher, have purchased books for my students with my personal monthly checking account. My school has provided my classroom with non-fiction books that are grade level appropriate. I asked for fiction grade level appropriate books but of what I understand it will take some time because of the budget. Meantime my students desperately need books to read. They are starting to get "bored" of non-fiction books. I will not have them experience such, because the knowledge they gain from non-fiction books is equally valuable. We read every day at the minimum of 2 hours. I would, as much as my students, be very grateful to be able experiencing variation in our daily literacy reading.
