Ms. McCreight from North Charleston SC is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books that are on their reading level. The cart will be a helpful addition to organize the books so students may select appropriate reading material.

Many of my students are below the expected reading level for their grade. As a first year teacher, I do not have a wide range of books, especially ones for earlier readers. Increasing our literacy skills is my number one focus and I can't do that without the proper materials - books!
My students are my absolute heart.
I work in a school that most people would deem "challenging", but it's exactly where I want to be; where I can help children who need it the most. Many of my children come from broken or unstable home environments. I work in a Title 1 school, where all students receive breakfast and lunch. In addition, our school provides several other support services such as Community in Schools and WINGS, which is an after-school program that provides students with social and academic support as well as dinner. I currently have 18 students in my class and they are full of energy, ideas, and and an eagerness to learn!
In order to support my students' eagerness to learn, I am in dire need of books for my classroom library. Many of my students are reading below our grade level (fourth) and in order to boost their reading skills, books at a variety of levels will be crucial. This will help me be able to meet each of their unique needs. The use of the cart will help the students be able to select reading material that is on their level without having to ask me for direct assistance. Having the cart will allow the books to be organized and present them to the students in a clear and appealing fashion. Without a proper organizational structure, the students may not benefit from the books as greatly.
As I said before, my students are my heart!
I will do whatever I can so that they are each strong individuals who are prepared for their future. Literacy skills are the foundation to growing and developing your knowledge and by helping build our classroom library, we will be one step closer to doing just that!
