I am a loving and creative fifth grade English Language Arts teacher at DC Preparatory Academy in the Edgewood Brookland neighborhood of northeast Washington, DC. This is my fifth year as a teacher, but it is my first year at this amazing charter school in the inner city of our nation's capitol. I have an active, engaging, and exciting curriculum for the 35 beautiful, smiling faces in my class. My goal this year is for my students to develop a strong commitment to, and a love for, reading. I also want to instill in my students a love for school so that they never give up on their education. To make this dream a reality, I plan to read many books with my students. One of the many books I would like to read with them is "Number The Stars". It is essential that each of the students has their own copy of the book; I want my students to be afforded the same opportunities as children who go to school in higher socio-economic communities. All children deserve a chance to be successful; at my school, we are preparing all of our students for college. A love for reading is essential in this equation and many of my students may never have the opportunity to read such a quality, amazing book without your help.
