Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be teaching about 150 9th-12th grade English Language Arts students from many different backgrounds. As their English teacher, one of my major goals is to help them develop a love for reading. In order for students to want to read a book, they need to feel represented in or connected to the books. There are a ton of modern and relevant books out there to help grab their attention but they are not always available in the school library right away. I would love to be able to build a classroom library where my students can easily access and borrow these types of books. One way to accomplish this goal is to give the students access to a wide variety of books that cover diverse topics, different genres, and different types of characters the students can relate to!

My Project

As I've taught more and more students, I have recognized the need to update and improve my classroom library. So many students are disinterested in independent reading or reading for fun, and my goal is to change that!

With an improved classroom library, I can provide the students with a wide variety of book choices that are diverse, popular, and relevant to their life and interests.

Although I have some books in my classroom, many of them are outdated or difficult for students to take interest in. I believe it is important for students to feel represented in and connected to books if we want them to read them and enjoy them. I have done a lot of research and selected a large variety of books that are modern, relevant, and cover many different topics, conflicts, and genres I think the students would be interested in. Please help me fill my classroom with books my students will love!
