Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology plays a vital role in our classroom everyday. With access to an innovative iPad it will diversify the way in which I am able to reach my students with special needs.
My students are a rambunctious group of 11 fourth and fifth graders with various moderate disabilities ranging from intellectual disabilities to autism.
Our school is a K-5 elementary in California. Some students in my class are non-verbal and others have limited language skills. The students are functioning at about a preschool through second grade level. Throughout the day they work on math, reading, writing, language, and social skills. The students are challenged with academic, behavioral, and emotional concepts due to their disabilities. All of the students require stimulating methods to inspire them to learn and progress through their goals.
My Project
I am seeking a classroom iPad to help my students bypass the challenges associated with their disability and to use as a reinforcing learning aid. With the iPad, I will differentiate instruction by customizing it to my students' learning experience and the curriculum. The iPad will be used for many academic subjects such as reading, math, writing, science, and language. I also plan to use the device as a motivational tool, where students who struggle with behaviors can earn time to play highly preferred educational games that serve as positive reinforcements. The device will effectively help my students actively engage in the learning process and will transform learning.
