My Project

A first-grade classroom is often a noisy place! This can be good since little learners must collaborate and learn from each other. However, there is a time and a place for creative noise. I teach at a Title 1 school. Many students need me to create individualized small-group interventions to help them learn. As I teach small group instruction I need to keep the rest of the class engaged and learning. I can accomplish this by using district-approved computer reading and math enrichment programs.

For this type of instruction to work students need access to a pair of quality headphones.

First graders won't use headphones that don't fit or sound right. Without headphones, the noise of the class increases and no one is learning! Students can't concentrate on the computer program's individualized instruction plus the noise is distracting to the teacher who is trying to help students who need individualized help.

My classroom currently has a set of headphones that are 3 years old and have seen a lot of use! Several are broken and the sound shorts out. I don't have enough working headphones for all my students to use. I want to replace them with new headphones and a pocket organizer to store them when not in use.

I also use whiteboards and dry-erase markers daily in reading and math instruction. The whiteboards I have are chipped and stained. I want to replace them with whiteboards lined on one side and blank on the other. This allows me to assess their learning and adjust my instruction.
