Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Most of my students come from low socioeconomic households. There is a strong correlation between low income and a child's reading ability. Children from low-income families often have significantly lower preacademic skills, infrequent interactions with learning materials, and experience less parental involvement. Research indicates that children will be more successful at reading if they have access to quality learning materials and a quiet safe space to develop these skills. Reading success is achieved when students are mentally and physically prepared to learn. Help me create this environment in my classroom. Everyday I give up my lunch for students to come and quietly read, study and work on school assignments. Often times students do not have a quiet space to work. I provide such space everyday. I would like to make this space more inviting and cozy for my students. This will lead to better comprehension, a love of reading and learning and an overall increase in student success.
