My classroom is a self-contained special education room. That means that I have 8-12 students and multiple adults because my students have higher needs. In my classroom all of my students are intellectually disabled and medically fragile.
My classrooms mission is centered on supporting the growth of independence and functional skills.
Our focus is to allow our students opportunities to explore and learn. However, with my particular population of students special attention is needed in room set up and materials. In order for my team and I to meet their needs we need a classroom that enables us to meet those needs.
My Project
My kiddos are some of the brightest and sweetest kids I've ever met! They have higher needs in that they are medically fragile and some with great concerns in gross motor. This means that they classroom has to be physically set up to enable them to get around easily, this also means that we the adults have to be able to move and change the room set up to meet their needs. An easel on wheels would allow us to move and create new learning areas by the minute! We could meet so many more students and their needs.
Visual supports are huge for my kiddos!
The large Post It paper would allow me to make all kinds of visual reminders and aids for my students to remember and build on what they have learned.
