Now more than ever, it is important for students to learn how to relax and self regulate when they are frustrated about school work or something that happened in school or at home. I feel that giving my students a place in the classroom to destress and refocus on school work is really important to their education. I am requesting fidgets and calm strips. It's also important to make sure this area has the resources and tools to help them do this.
Research has shown that a classroom with a calming center has improved academics and decreased negative student behavior.
Students also struggle to stay organized which frustrates them and leads to more negative behavior. Giving them materials like folders and pencils to stay organized can also increase learning and lead to a more productive classroom.
