The students in our school come from a low-economic area. Many students have hectic family lives or live in foster homes. Getting the children to complete their homework is a struggle. Most parents work nights and children are left home with siblings.
Our classroom is an ICT classroom, integrated collaborative teaching.
There are two teachers, one general education and one special education teacher. There are 20 students in our class, 7 of them have IEP's for various reasons.
We try on a daily basis to make learning fun and engaging for our students. It is a task to keep them motivated and we are always looking for fun new ways to teach our lessons.
My Project
The district we work in has a limited amount of resources available to teachers. We spend so much of our own money already to make our classroom look nice and help the students be successful. Some of these items will be used for classroom management while others will be used to engage the students in learning activities.
Having these materials, especially the color printer, will help us to enhance to look of our room and make the materials more appealing for the students!
A little color goes a long way! We plan on using the flashlights for Flashlight Fridays were we allow the children to read their books during independent reading time with a flashlight! The beaded chains will be used for Brag Tags. Students will be allowed to wear them around their necks to brag about all of their achievements!
Elephant and Piggie books are such a big hit in first grade. What better than Elephant and Piggie stuffed animals to go along without read-alouds!
We are also a very visual classroom. Being ICT means that some of our students need additional support. Some of these materials will be used to create a more desirable visual classroom to help those students that need it!
