My students are creative, clever, and eager to learn. They come to class every day excited to actively engage in 5th-grade content. From math to science to language arts, they are always putting in their best effort.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping​ to inspire each and every one of our learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
In 5th grade, we have been learning all about financial literacy and now- we are going to apply all that we have learned to a year-long classroom economy!
Students will maintain budgets, manage savings accounts, and even pay taxes.
This project ties up the last pieces our classroom needs to run this simulation successfully. We need wallets to hold the "Scholar Dollars" that have not yet been put into our savings accounts or invested. The bankers will be keeping track of deposits and payments of rent with receipts. And of course, students will be able to spend money in our student store (if their budget allows!)
This is not a behavior management system but rather a project-based learning experience created to help students learn more about financial literacy. They will receive monthly pay and just like the real world, they will be paying taxes. The items in this project of course will make all that is financial literacy a bit more fun!
