Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach ~20 wonderful, brilliant, empathetic third graders at a school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. They are energetic, funny, and curious, and they're ready for a big year of learning!
Our students are back in-person, many for the first time since March 2020.
This project is one of many efforts that our classroom is making to ensure we are building an intentional community space.
My Project
Our class has been incredibly flexible throughout the year, and there are some essentials we've realized we needed. Kids utilize the Calm Corner everyday, and timers would help them keep track of their time so they don't have to ask a grown-up for assistance.
Noise canceling headphones have been specifically requested by a few learners who value working in the quiet.
This would make a huge difference to them but also to our entire class to have that as an option. Because it's their first time back with a full class, it's been a big adjustment. They're handling everything with grace, and these tools would help our year go smoother.
