My Students

My students are engaged and excited learners. Their curiosity is boundless and inspiring. Many of my students are second language learners. The students in my classroom are from many different countries; this diversity is embraced and respected. Others have been identified as learners with special academic, communication, social, and emotional needs. Together we build a trusting community where each discovers and develops, in themselves and supports in others, strengths and needs as learners, as well as members of a community. They attend a suburban public school, grades 1 through 5 in Western Massachusetts. All students receive free breakfast and lunch and many come from families who are considered at poverty level.

My Project

My students will benefit from using this kidney-shaped table to collaborate with one another as well as small group instruction with myself and the Special Education teacher. The kidney table can also be used as a workstation to: support inquiry based hands-on and project based learning, and provide a community setting enabling students to work closely with each other.

The kidney shaped table is the perfect shape, providing appropriate design for meaningful academic and social-emotional conversations for both teacher to student and students to students.

Students will have intentional learning spaces as well as an opportunity to feel part of a group in a meaningful way. As a teacher, it is a more productive and intimate way to observe and assist each student.
