Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education teacher at a Title I middle school in Houston, TX. I teach 9 students in a self-contained Autism classroom where we work on both academic as well as social skills. My goal is to help them raise money for their karate demonstration team uniform as well as develop valuable life lessons such as money management, social and memory skills, as well as gain independence. My students struggle with social communication and are building their skills in math, language, reading, as well as many other functional tasks within the classroom. In order to give them real-life learning experiences that they will be able to relate to. I am hoping to start up a Coffee Cart business that they will really be able to take ownership of and be able to run fairly independently.
My Project
My students need coffee cart supplies such as the Ninja coffee maker and aprons to teach them the skills needed to have their own independent jobs! As a teacher who wants to give my students lessons that they will value as well as skills that they will be able to use once they leave high school, is my number one GOAL! With this coffee cart business, our class, will start from the grounds up! Starting with voting on a name of the business, learning about supplies, organizing materials, socializing with customers, understanding hygiene, learning about uniforms, following rules, kitchen skills, and money handling, we will be learning employable skills. These are just a few of the goals we can reach with this project! Our intention is to take this coffee cart, throughout the school during the morning hours and selling coffee and tea to faculty members.
