My students need a clean and comfortable carpet where they can sit for lessons, discussions and activities.

My Students
We get ourselves ready to learn on the carpet with the Carpet Rap.
"On the carpet we sit:
Cris cross applesauce
I said, cris cross applesauce!"
We use our carpet all day every day to gather as a classroom community for teaching and learning.
My students are a fantastic group of kids from all over the world.
They are a mixture of English language learners, native English speakers, students with special needs and their typical peers. They are excited about learning how to read, how to solve math problems and how to write stories. They love to discuss their learning with me and with each other.
We are a part of an elementary school in Boston that teaches students to be respectful, responsible, safe and hard-working. We are in a beautiful, old building that is well-loved and well-used. Our classroom would love a little sprucing up! 74% of our students are low-income and our school is struggling to stretch its budget to meet our basic needs.
My Project
We would love a new classroom rug. My students would use the new rug every day, multiple times a day to gather for our morning meeting, read-alouds, lessons and discussions. A new rug without holes, or threadbare patches would allow all students to fit comfortably and engage more fully in learning. Instead of noticing that bare spot underneath them or how squished they are, students could share their thoughts on learning.
A new rug would help us to increase the pride we already feel in our classroom.
The rug is the centerpiece both physically and instructionally of our classroom. Donations to help us buy a new, larger rug would make our room more beautiful and help students to better focus on learning. At our school and in our classroom we learn to be respectful of our environment. It would help my first graders immensely to have a new rug worthy of some respect!
More than half of students from low‑income households
