Classroom Carpet for Second Grade Comfort!

Help me give my students a place to continue building our classroom community. We do so much of our learning on the carpet each day. Right now, all 19 students are squished on a small carpet.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

After two years of learning at home or hybrid learning, my students are eager to be in our classroom. We have been working really hard on building our classroom community and learning how to be in school again. They have made so much growth both academically and socially this year.

My Project

I am requesting a new carpet for our classroom. We start each day with a morning meeting on the carpet. Each student gets the opportunity to share each day. We focus on a specific SEL skill each week to help the kids learn vital social skills like kindness, integrity, and being caring.

We also do most of our whole-group learning on the carpet.

More than half of my students are English Language Learners so teaching on the carpet allows my students to practice using academic language with their peers often through frequent turn & talks.

Currently, all 19 of my students are sharing a small carpet. We are hoping to get a larger carpet that fits everyone comfortably.
