For many of my students, this will be their first chance to make and explore something entirely on their own. Each student now has a place to store their Chromebook, headphones, and library books, which has made a huge difference in how smoothly our day runs. Before, students had to shuffle things around inside their desks to find what they needed, which often led to distractions or items falling on the floor. Now, everything has its place, and students can grab their supplies quickly so we can spend more time learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the chair pockets first arrived, the students were so excited to see them. Many of them had chair pockets in First Grade and were excited to have an organization system they were used to back again. They took pride in setting up their new spaces just right.\r\n\r\nThe next step for our class is to use this organization system to continue building responsibility and independence with our materials. With their Chromebooks, headphones, and books now neatly stored, students can focus more on learning instead of managing clutter. We are working on keeping our desks neat throughout the day and making sure everything is returned to its place after each activity. Students can quickly find the resources they need, and transitions between activities are much faster and more efficient. In math, the counting bears have been a game changer for helping my students understand addition and subtraction concepts in a hands-on, concrete way. Watching them physically move the manipulatives and explain their thinking out loud has been such a powerful moment as a teacher.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're working on building CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words and mastering numbers to 20. These materials have made our lessons more interactive and engaging, especially for my tactile and visual learners.
