My students come from a low income/high poverty area. Many of them have overcome challenges in their personal lives, that most adults have never had to experience. But, they still come to school and display their love of learning.
These students are smart, resilient, and creative.
I am a fourth year teacher at a Title I school where a majority of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. These students are ready to learn, and many use school as a way to escape their home lives. My class of second graders love to engage in learning through movement and through different seating arrangements!
This carpet will be used for whole group instruction. Students in 2nd grade need to be able to move around and learn from different locations in the room. Reading, science and social studies as well as math lessons will be taught from the carpet. This way students will have a space to sit in the front of the classroom and learn --distraction free!
Research has shown that students learn better when they are not sitting at their desks all day long!
This rug will provide space for all 25 of my second grade students to sit and will allow them to have a comfortable place to learn and work during independent work time as well as whole group instruction.
