Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a public school, special education teacher of a fourth grade, integrated, co-teaching class. Entering the 2021-2022 school year will be my second year teaching 4th grade as a co-teacher to 24 students and eighth year overall. I love teaching and I truly bring the passion for learning to work each day!

My students love learning and having fun in the classroom as well.

My students, at times, might appear distracted; yet, this is the nature of their learning disabilities. I am constantly searching for new, innovative ways to maintain the interest of all my students in everyday learning including using this printer for many skill-based assignments needed to show growth.

My students benefit from my high energy levels and my attentiveness to their individual learning styles. They learn their very best within the confines of a small group and individualized learning setting that works for each student. For those who do not know my teaching style, I am strongly devoted. Whether arriving an upmost of an hour early to school and staying a minimum of two hours after regular school hours, I spend numerous amounts of time planning and preparing for my students.

My Project

With one day notice, prior to the start of the school year, I was informed that I was moving classrooms. With limited time to clear out a classroom previously used as school storage, I was pressed for time, to organize my plans for the year and get a storage room in working order to become a welcoming and inviting classroom. Each of the supplies requested below will be used each and everyday to make for a positive learning experience for all my students. My students come from low income families. My school is considered a Title 1 school, so asking too much from parents to send in supplies would appear overbearing and stressful. Corona, NY-- the location of my school was also one of the epicenters of the Coronavirus pandemic. Many of the school families were hit hard emotionally during this pandemic.

Some examples of how these supplies requested will be used include ample use of chart paper to make visuals and learning models for students.

My personal teaching philosophy allows for ample visuals and modeling. Chart paper and chart paper markers will help create a positive, engaging, welcoming, and educationally useful classroom atmosphere to all learners. Computer ink, cartridges, and computer paper will help me print out take-home visuals for students, worksheets (as needed), and supplementary work materials to fit the differentiated needs of all my student learners. Additionally, I requested white looseleaf paper and colored looseleaf paper to create for ample writing opportunities for students in which I like to employ the writing process (i.e. drafting, revising/editing, and publishing). Different color papers will correspond to each part of the writing process. In short, each supply item requested has been strategically mapped out to last for the remainder of the school year since entering this classroom with very little.
