This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I was taught by the Suzuki Masters from Japan and Golden Strings, Keith Cook, from ages 7-12 and from Maurice Borg (protege of Fritz Kreisler) and Dr Frederick Palmer (professor at SOU) from 13 years of age.

My participation in the Suzuki method as a child was transformative and exciting, with hundreds of children on the stage playing from the beginning of the books all together.

The feeling of playing with so many other violinists at the Suzuki Festival is impossible to describe. It was so thrilling, all with perfect posture, perfect Russian bowing, clear and resonant and rich! I still remember the joy it gave us! As the pieces got progressively harder the children exited the stage until there were only a handful of superb players of the A minor Mozart.

I fell in love with my violin and have tried during my career as a public school teacher to pass on the art of playing violin I was endowed with as a child and now as a certified master Suzuki teacher myself to pass the torch to the next generation.

After 25 years of teaching for free before school, I am now reaching the last 10 or so years of my career and with the support of my amazingly kind principal can now offer a class during the school day as an elective to all of our middle school students. Your donation ensures every student has an instrument to participate in our program and at the Suzuki Violin Festival at the Claremont Colleges at the end of next year just like I experienced with so many young violinists as a child, infused with the joy of playing my violin for the rest of my life! Please help us make this dream for our students come true!
