Classical Guitarists of the Future

My students need 5 classical guitars to double the number of the school's classical guitar students.

My Students

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us." Anxiety is one of the greatest obstacles to learning - music calms the soul.

My students are bright and enthusiastic children who attend an under-resourced urban public school.

All of my students live in a 99 percent high poverty neighborhood with very little resources. Students vary greatly in degree of abilities. Many students long for an escape from the chaos and anxiety that a low-income/high crime urban neighborhood can bring.

My Project

There is a waiting list to join my Classical Guitar class. 5 classical guitars would double the size of the class allowing more students to pick up the invaluable skill of playing an instrument. There is no better feeling as a teacher than watching my students struggle with something, work hard at it, and master it. Practicing an instrument allows them to experience this and learning a piece of music gives the students a sense of accomplishment.

I have seen music make a difference in students' academics, self-confidence, social skills, and team-work skills.

Music can set children on a path of success at a critical moment in their development. Supporting music programs in school can make a difference in one child's life, but can also have a cascading affect on the community as a whole.
