Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach around 160 eighth-graders at a Title I school on the eastern side of San Antonio, Texas, where the majority of our students come from low-income families. We have a very diverse group of students who are eager to learn. One hundred percent of our students also qualify for a free lunch. Many cannot afford even basic supplies, so we try to provide everything we are able to for the students that are needed, along with extra goodies as rewards. I teach a majority of Hispanic and African American students, a large percentage of English language learners, and special education students.

All our students are bright, capable young people who can achieve everything they set out to do.

Our school strives to help them with all their goals. The teachers at my school work together to give our students the best educational opportunities possible. Our school is known as the "Pride of the East Side" and they are the Mighty Cougars.

My Project

Since it is the middle of the year, there are a few things we are running a bit low on in class. These basic supplies are items that are used on a daily basis. Many are for students to use to work on their assignments. I have requested quite a variety since they like to write in fun colors. They enjoy doing the work more when they can choose different pens to write with. Sounds improbable but it really works! The markers and highlighters will also be used for notes and reviews.

Because COVID is crazier than ever, I would love to be able to get class sets of items so my students won't have to share from class to class.

Having enough materials will give us time to fully clean them for the next day of classes! These are items we already have a few of, but having extra would help keep everyone safe from germs!
