Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This group of 5th graders is the first group that I have had the pleasure of calling my students, as this is my first year teaching. This very interesting bunch of 10 and 11-year-olds are definitely a group to behold. They have spunk and silliness to last for years. As we approach the end of the year and state testing is nearly done with, I would like to offer then an opportunity to really dive into a book and take it apart at all its elements. They are an each bunch and would benefit from all and any encounter with a book.

My Project

These students will love getting to know these characters and how they overcome their obstacles. Through adventure and bravery the characters discover secrets about the place that they have lived in for their entire lives. My students will get to read and discuss, taking an active role in their learning as they conduct literacy circles for the duration of the book. As we are coming to end of the year, I feel that this kind of interaction with a book is what they have been longing for all year. What better way to end the year than to do just that!
