This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are creative, enthusiastic, and animated learners. They are eager to grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, and scholars. Beyond these wonderful attributes, each one of my students brings a unique story and set of experiences to our classroom.
We live out one of our school's values, 'Diversity As Our Strength,' every day.
Our families come from an incredible variety of countries including Bhutan, Mexico, the Philippines, Guatemala, Thailand, China, Honduras, El Salvador, and Afghanistan. Our families, school, and neighborhood are deeply connected to create a community full of hope, support, and love.
My Project
In our next unit, our class will be researching the rain forest! This unit is typically extremely engaging for students, and my hope is that our current circumstances do not prevent that from being the case this year as well!
With this project, we have the potential to get a copy of a rigorous, engaging text about the rain forest into the hands of every student, even though they are attending school from home!
Usually students get their hands on hundreds of books every school year, and while there are some great alternatives online that provide digital books, students are still missing the opportunity to read the same books at the same time as their classmates and their teacher this year.
