My Students

I am a full-time self-contained (special education) teacher in a third and fourth-grade​ bridge class. Our classroom is made up of twelve students that have multiple abilities and disabilities that affect their academic learning. The students come from various ethnic backgrounds, some of whom are immigrants and second language learners. Our classroom is full of unique personalities. Creative, funny, dramatic, and mysterious, are words to describe my students. We are a room of authors, mathematicians, scientists, poets, teachers, and learners!

I believe when a learning environment with high expectations of achievement is introduced, perpetuated by the classroom teacher, and supported by the school and community, students cultivate an " I can do it" attitude and perform at and beyond expectations despite challenges they may face.

My Project

Class pets build self esteem and empathy. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are learning all about animals and their habitats. Class pets engage students in authentic conversations and give students responsibility.

Pets Create New Learning Experiences.

Students learn from the experiences we give them. As a teacher I would like to give students every opportunity to learn and every opportunity to participate in real authentic conversations.

Students will be able to observe and research our class pet and compare it to pets they might have at home. Students will have the opportunity to connect with an animal they might never interact with.
