Help me give my students supplies and materials as we enter the new year. My students are struggling with the fine motor skills and we need the practice.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
If you enter my classroom, you will see a diverse group of students building practical math skills to use in the classroom and out. You will hear many accents, as a third of my students are English language learners. You might even smell the leftovers from the free lunch and breakfast all of my students receive. What you won't hear is that most of my students face poverty at home. You won't see that many of them have overcome unimaginable obstacles. You will see the joy of learning; you will hear the effort and work we put in every day, despite what we go through.
My Project
Classrooms need supplies. In my classroom, many of my students were unable to afford the basic supply list. We continue to make do and use the few supplies students brought in, as well as the supplies I have purchased. However, these supplies are dwindling as we finish our second quarter.
Having classroom sets of supplies will allow us to move forward in engaging, creative activities to multiply learning.
As we move on, we are learning fractions, multiplication, and word problems. These concepts are all made real by tangible projects and explorations.
