My students need a set of class books so we can read the novel aloud and discuss the books together. I would like to get a class set of The Hunger Games and The Giver.

My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds. I teach at a Title 1 Program Improvement public school in South San Jose. I teach at a school that has a bilingual Spanish strand up through 4rd grade. The families of most of my students come from Mexico, Central America, and Vietnam. I teach 6th grade and have around 33 6th graders each year.
Our school is unique in that it's the only school in our district that is a "Leader in Me" School.
All teachers have gone through a professional development course that has taught us how to guide our students to be leaders in and out of the classroom. It is based on Steven and Sean Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. It is a really amazing program and I am proud to work here, despite the fact that we are a Title 1, program improvement school. I love working at this school among fantastic coworkers and our skilled principal leader.
My Project
Acquiring these book sets, The Giver by Lowis Lowry, and The Hunger Games Book 1 by Suzanne Collins, will definitely affect my 6th grade students, and many more students in years to come! It will allow me to do classroom read alouds where students can each have a book in front of them to help teach them how to cite and reference evidence from the text, notice spelling, grammar, and language patterns, and allow them to help me read out loud. These books were selected because they are examples of futuristic civilizations with interesting government rules and expectations. They nicely compliment our year-long Project Based Learning history unit on ancient civilizations and will lead to interesting discussions and comparisons and contrasts between civilizations and what does and does not make a civilization prosper.
