Have you ever tried making a perfect circle without using a compass or template? It's not an easy thing to do!
Teaching 800 kids without an annual budget means we go through a lot of art supplies.
I need all of the help I can get! I run after school art clubs and a summer art camp to help raise money to keep my program going, but we are just making it, so some extra art supplies would make a huge difference!
I teach 800 kids in a low socioeconomic area of Indiana. The majority of the students at my school receive free or reduced price lunch, so that means there is not a lot of money available for extras like school supplies. Many of our kids start the school year with nothing. We join forces with local churches and organizations to get these kids backpacks and some basic school supplies, but my students never have the needed art supplies. Because of this, I have to provide everything they need in the art room. I don't mind doing this, but each year more and more kids need help, so I am needing to replenish supplies more often and am needing even more help than in the past!
My Project
I am requesting compasses! With trying to incorporate math into art projects so that kids are having interdisciplinary lessons, we are using rulers and compasses quite often in the art room! Rulers are nice and sturdy so I am OK on those, but compasses are more delicate and unfortunately we are going through my supply faster than I anticipated!
This project proposal is so important because I want kids to see how art is more than just drawing, art can be everywhere, even math!
I want to be able to use circles as a major part of my art education program, and compasses will make that possible!
