My Students

The students in our classrooms consist of preschool aged children between the ages of 3 to 5 who display characteristics of the autism spectrum. All students display a language impairment including students who are functionally non verbal. The majority of our students require a level of adult to student ratio of one to three (1:3) or less. This requires a highly structured routine and environment utilizing natural and artificial boundaries to ensure the safety of all students and classroom adults.

My Project

Currently, our Pre-K classrooms contain many seating options that do not allow students to rest their feet flat on the floor. Dangling feet cause students to be fidgety, leave the group, and fall out of his or her chair. Cube chairs allow children to develop the ability to independently participate and remain in large group settings. This is because these cube chairs provide physical boundaries to allow students to sit at circle time and be ready to learn.
