Chromebooks to Help Second Graders Build 21st Century Skills!
My students need 6 classroom computers to access information, to build critical 21st Century research, writing, and publication abilities, and to make learning and skills practice more exciting!
My students are one special bunch! I have had the privilege to not only be their kindergarten teacher and then loop with them to first grade, but now I get to loop with them another year to second grade next year! Our classroom is lively with lots of energy and movement, and it feels like a big class family when you walk in our door.
My students come to school every day excited to be together, and eager to learn!
Due to the fact that I have looped with them for two years and will now loop with them to second grade as well, I am constantly supporting them in building upon the skills that they have mastered. My students love to be challenged, and one of our favorite things to do as a class team is to set goals for our learning and try to go beyond our target.
I am truly fortunate to facilitate learning for this class yet another year!
My Project
At this time, our building has just two laptop carts of 30 laptops each among almost 500 students, and these are usually reserved for our older grades. We have a laptop lab in the library, but this is only available when library is not in session and the open times are typically reserved for students in older grades as well due to testing and keyboarding practice. Unfortunately, we just don't have enough access to technology for my students to really build the technological skills that are required of students today.
Having Chromebooks that belong just to our class will provide the consistent opportunities for students to use their district Google accounts to type and save documents on the cloud (and they can work on their projects from anywhere this way), publish their pieces, as well as safely research topics of their choice for project-based learning, practice skills via engaging online games, access online stories and kid-friendly news articles (Such as NewsELA), and so much more!
Thank you for considering a donation toward to our technology project!
