Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a special education as well as an intervention class for all levels of students in the school. I have been charged with dramatically improving student math scores by the end of the school year and bridge the achievement gap. The school is a magnet school in an urban setting that serves students of various ethnic backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. 100% of my students receive free and reduced lunch. Students go home to various responsibilities at home including caring for younger siblings and preparing family meals. They also have a variety of disabilities (some more than one), which impact their ability to access the general education curriculum without additional supports (specialized instruction and accommodations and modifications).
My students are hardworking and want to do well.
However, due to covid-19, they now need to access their learning online, and they are lacking the technology to do so.
My Project
With your support, students will be able to log into Google Classroom daily to access their academic classes, as well as modified content that I will post in order to support their needs.
We are all learning how to shift school online, and without this technology my students will not have access to their education.
By getting Chromebooks into their hands, I will be able to video conference with them, and they will be able to see me teach live or access modified materials (such as text to speech).
Picture them, sitting in their homes, and being able to see their teachers and connect with their learning through Google Classrooms. Not only will they be able to get access to the education they deserve, but they will also get the chance to receive their specialized instruction through me!
