My students are future astronauts, engineers, beauticians, bankers, lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers, pharmacists, welders, veterinarians, etc.. Each one of my students is gifted in their own skill or trade and may even become the next President. I believe in my students and I quote to them daily, "They can be or do anything they want to if they just try their best, believe in themselves and work hard to achieve it."
As a result of living in a high-poverty/low-income district, 70% of the student population are economically disadvantaged.
In addition, 100% of our school's students are participating in our free breakfast/lunch program. Many times some of these students come to school and that is the only food they get all day. Sometimes it is difficult to get my students to achieve their best because of the situations they are dealing with each day. My students are the most important reason I became a teacher. Daily I see my students learn new intriguing information and broaden their minds to achieve their dreams. I believe in each and every student I teach daily and instilling pride in themselves is very important.
My Project
In an effort to help all my students develop high order thinking skills, engage in learning, and become immersed in the 21st century classroom through using Google classroom, I am asking for 27 Chromebooks and a Chromebook cart for storing and charging.
I want to create a rigorous technology-based one-to-one math classroom for my students.
I teach 35 students in my classes. I teach all levels of math including honors, an inclusion class, and ACT prep. My goal is to engage my students in the highest level of learning. A classroom set of Chromebooks will allow my students to use Google classroom everyday for projects, assignments, online book applications, power points and etc., while preparing them for the state online EOC test. This will result in 1,170 hours of use throughout the school year on the Chromebooks. It will also help my students engage in ACT Prep tests that are online that will aid them in getting scholarships. Furthermore, the Chromebooks will enable my students to prepare for the 21st Century environment which is technology based. My students will be ready for college classes, since many classes operate using Google classroom. It will also give my students opportunities to engage in rigorous online practice testing platforms that increases their knowledge in high stakes testing subjects such as Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
