For students to succeed they need more skills and knowledge than ever before. I am teaching a group of enthusiastic third graders with a wide variety of needs and learning styles.
We are a small, isolated island community with roughly 3,000 people consisting of various socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
Many of my students do not have access to computers at home. Their experiences with technology need to come from the classroom. Although my school realizes technology is important for students’ education, we do not have funds to provide every classroom with computers.
My Project
Students will use the Chromebooks to enhance learning in all subject areas. In social studies they will be able to connect to others outside of our small isolated community. They can use Google Maps to discover and explore places they have never been. They will be able to take advantage of the wonderful digital resources available to them in our newly adopted literacy program. These computers will provide more support to help build reading and writing skills. Students will be able to strengthen their research skills and practice digital literacy activities. It is important that my third grade students are well acquainted with testing on computers before being given state assessments. They need to have regular opportunities with computers throughout the entire year. Chromebooks will allow them to view new content, practice previously learned skills, as well as strengthen necessary technology skills required for state assessments.
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of the world.” – David Warlick
We've worked really hard over the last five years to get more computers into my classroom. These two additional computers will assure that every student in the class will have his or her own computer.
