My students need computers (chromebooks) to supplement their learning of mathematics, problems solving skills, and the nuances of taking newly mandated online assessment.
Welcome to my students' classroom. It truly is their own. Even when they don't realize it, they are the main factors as to what learning takes place in Room 115. Everyday, I try to provide for my students the best learning experience possible to promote their success in school and in life.
My 142 students are diverse.
They are jokesters, social butterflies, and athletes. They are poets, scientists, and mathematicians. They are beauty queens, drama queens, and loners. But not matter how diverse my students are they all have the potential to live a successful life. I realize that as their teacher, it is my job to get them to see this potential, to believe in themselves, and to give them the best opportunities to learn the skills that will allow them to attain their potential and be successful. My students need an authentic learning experience complete with authentic curriculum, authentic grading system, and authentic tools.
My Project
My students will use their chromebooks to supplement their learning. As with all educational technology, the chromebooks will not be used to replace instruction, as a management tool, or as a playground. The chromebooks will be used as tools to create an effective and authentic learning experience.
Chromebooks can create an effective learning experience by giving my students access to amazing mathematics education resources like Desmos and Geogebra that increase the potential to make meaningful connections between the mathematical content of my class to their different representations. They will allow students to visualize, represent, create, and explore mathematics in an effective and efficient way that can maximize their learning.
Chromebooks can create an authentic learning experience by providing students an authentic tool they can use to become more self-directed. I want my students to become more self-directed problem solvers. Chromebooks give them a tool to become just that.
This project will have an amazing impact on my classroom.
I'm asking only for enough chromebooks for half of my students. This keeps the price reasonable as well as creates opportunities for my students to learn to work more effectively with others. My students will also benefit by learning real-world problem solving skills along with the mathematics that will contribute to their success no matter what their future holds for them. It will be the best math class they will ever have.
