My Students

My students are kind, persistent, courageous, collaborative, responsible and open-minded. I feel lucky to be their speech teacher because our teacher-student relationship is reciprocal, where I teach them academic curriculum and they teach me about their culture, pop culture and technology. My students who are in 6th-8th grade have learning disabilities, speech/language impairments, and Autism. They have difficulties with reading and decoding texts. They struggle with writing and organizing their thoughts and ideas in cohesive ways. Despite their difficulties, they are all motivated to excel in their learning, however they often have hard time reaching their goals.

Most of my students are in integrated co-teaching classrooms hence, the curriculum is differentiated and modified for them based on their needs.

My goal is to incorporate curriculum-based content into their therapy sessions, so they can academically succeed.

My Project

I am requesting two Chromebooks because I believe it will assist my students in improving their reading and writing skills. They will have the opportunity to gain access to dozens of free books and other digital academic resources. These Chromebooks will help them complete their writing assignments as well as correct and edit their work. Many times students come to therapy room for extra help with writing assignments or research and unfortunately they have to wait for their turn to use my desktop because another student is using it. Most of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds where they have no access to computers or a WiFi. My students and I are in desperate need of these Chromebooks because it’s going to help them complete their assignments on time and be able to achieve their Speech-Language goals as well as increase their typing speed. It is a valuable learning tool and will lead the way for innovative learning in my therapy room.
