My students need 2 Chromebooks to build towards a 1:1 initiative in my classroom, which will be used for all subjects including reading, math, social studies, science and coding.

My Students

Our classroom of 22 students is full of energy, eagerness to learn and hard workers. They have a joy and calmness when they enter school since over 60% of our population receives free and reduced lunch. My students this year are a unique group where they are high trauma students (homelessness, foster care, history of abuse, etc).

We want our students not to be victims of their lives but instead, survivors.

We do this by creating a safe, predicable and rigorous classroom that focuses on positive behavior support and goal setting.

My Project

Walk into our classroom during tech time and you'll hear keyboards clicking, you'll see kids with headphones on and engaged in their learning. They use Chromebooks to build their technical knowledge and to receive individualized instruction at their level.

Some of these 2nd graders do not have technology at home, so the only time they get to enhance these skills is at school.

As a Title 1 school it is my goal to create more opportunities for my students to use technology to enhance their learning in math, reading, writing, social studies and science.

Currently we are sharing 60 Chromebooks with 200 2nd graders. Having two Chromebooks in my classroom can allow for extended learning. Students use online programs such as Zearn for math, I-Ready for reading and Imagine Learning for English language learners. Students are beginning to use Google Docs for writing.

Technology is changing the way we interact with the world. Nearly every job has a component to it that requires the worker to have effective use of technology. We must model effective use of technology from a young age. More importantly, we must ensure that students have access to using technology frequently. With Chromebooks, I can meet the needs of all my students in my classroom.
