Chromebooks for Honors Chemistry and Honors Physics

My Students

My classroom is in a selective enrollment math and science academy on the south side of Chicago. My students are historically underrepresented but are highly motivated, and love to explore topics in great detail.

My students love to engage with the world around them, and push themselves to do amazing things in their science classroom.

I want my students to be able to explore science and foster their curiosity for the world around them. This is difficult at times with the supplies we have.

My Project

In honors chemistry, students learn about the behavior of particles on a microscopic level.

The best way to view how microscopic particles behave is to take advantage of online simulations.

We currently use Colorado PhET and Concord Consortium simulations in our curriculum. This allows students to study gas laws, kinetics, and nuclear structure.

Often students have to share laptops, one per table, since we share our laptop cart with seven other classrooms.

If we were able to have our own collection of laptops, this would increase the amount of time each student can spend on simulations. We could also have students work on lab reports, create graphs using Google Sheets, and a number of other tasks.
