This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine a classroom of eager minds that get frustrated every time they sit down at outdated desktop computers. The keys on the keyboard stick! The mouse is clunky and takes up extra space! More importantly, they can't be moved around the classroom for partner work and small group work!
My students come from a low-income school on the near west side of Chicago.
I teach a 4th grade inclusion classroom. Over 95% of the students at my school qualify for free lunch. Some students do not have computers or internet connectivity at home. Some try accessing homework and writing google documents on their phones. Some have tablets but have trouble running the programs that we would like them to access at home.
My Project
The HP Chromebooks requested will be used in countless ways. Having additional Chromebooks in the classroom will enable more students to research topics, type and share their writing pieces in google docs, and complete differentiated reading and math tasks depending on their abilities. My school pays for a website that places students in reading and math lessons at their level. More Chromebooks will enable students that cannot access this website at home to have the opportunity to do so at school.
Due to decreased funding, my school has not been able to keep up with replacing outdated, slow desktop computers.
These Chromebooks will enable us to increase the amount of time students use technology in a variety of ways.Students will be able to research information according to their interests without waiting for their technology class that is only once per week. Students will be more engaged when they are given the choice to read a variety of articles based on their interests and reading levels. Students will learn 21st century skills creating google docs instead of turning in paper copies! These Chromebooks will increase creativity, productivity, and motivation to learn.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
