I am the proud Language Arts, Science and Social Studies teacher of 20-25 middle school students who have Autism. People on the Autism Spectrum may have challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, emotional regulation and non-verbal communications. My students typically have academic struggles as well.
My favorite thing about my students is how joyful and uninhibited they are!
Their feelings are so big - there is no in between. When they are sad, they are extremely sad. When they are happy, they are over the moon joyful! And they are not afraid to let other people know how happy they are.
My students love to use computers! They love to play games and create electronic presentations. My students are very tech savvy, and when I am able to use computers in instruction, their level of engagement increases. I love and admire my students so much, and I want to help them be as successful as possible.
My Project
Chromebooks will allow my students with Autism to be independent and actively engaged in learning. My students love to use the internet to do research and showcase their learning through the use of websites such as My Simple Show, Powtoon, and Prezi. Having chromebooks in my classroom will also allow my students to work independently on websites such as wizer.me and USA Test prep. They can become more independent and responsible for their own learning through the use of websites such as Readworks and Readtheory which allows them to monitor their own progress.
My students with Autism are creative thinkers and learners.
Having access to Chromebooks will allow them to grow and develop into independent learners and be more actively engaged in their education.
