Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a dedicated bunch of 4th graders that believe that education is their way to better their lives. All of these students are on a free breakfast, lunch and snack program. These children have a set "safe path" to walk on to get to and from school. They know that they will be out of harms’ way when they stay on this protected path. Imagine walking to school in that manner every day? Many of these kids have perfect attendance or close to it. They know that an enriched education will help advance their futures.
These school-children have a desire to be educated in all aspects of schooling especially in the fields of math and science.
They should be able to go anywhere in the world because they will have a great education, and not have to settle.
My Project
Many of my students' are far below reading level. Some need to catch up, and some are just entering the country. Chromebooks and multiple headphones will allow my students' to work independently on reading programs, research science topics that they will write about, and even go on virtual tours to see what they have read about. They can interact with other classrooms, across the district, as well as the world. The multiple headphones, allows the students to work on the Chromebooks, with a sense of cleanliness and a feeling of security, knowing that they each have their own set. Lastly, the hope of this project, is to allow for students that don't have a computer at home, to borrow it on the weekends. This was a great resource for some students in the past. My students' and this project go hand in hand.
They are truly a good bunch of children, that thrive for new knowledge every day.
This project will extend their education into today's technological world. I always allow students to borrow the computers, with parental consent, to continue their studies at home. With this school to home connection, families are developing a better understanding, that their child's education is so valuable.
