Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students consist of an extremely diverse group of students where most fall under lower income economic status. Living in a city where the motto is, "poverty with a view," provides a better idea of where my students fall.
When our students walk in the door, many of them have extremely little experience with computers in the academic sense.
They can navigate and find information easily, but when it comes to writing, they know very little.
I cannot gush enough about the students with whom I work every day. They are bright, excited, earnest, kind, and willing to take risks. The culture here is one of the utmost acceptance of diversity in culture, creed, identity, etc. They are, above all else, immensely curious and creative. They want to change the world and do it in style.
My Project
Technology is increasingly integrated into most occupations and students need exposure to these technologies to thrive in the modern world. Our students create online portfolios that are updated regularly and continue to be developed through high school and are often used for college applications. These portfolios display student progress and student work. The students then reflect on personal and academic growth by reviewing these collected pieces.
Our students are artistic digital citizens who need up-to-date technology to develop the research skills needed for the 21st Century and to create multimedia presentations to their highest abilities.
For example, students need computers to create digital products such as videos, podcasts, PowerPoints, etc. and they need technology (computers) in order to edit and share these modern engaging products.
