My students need two Chromebooks for our at-risk drop-out prevention program. These will be used to allow our students to access the RoadTrip Nation job acquisition program.
Our Plus program favorite phrase is "Who has it better than us? Nobody!" Our students have heard they are losers but I make sure they know they are winners by being in our program. They need to know we are a "Plus family" to stand by them. Their reward and ours is when they cross the stage and graduate.
Our Plus program takes credit deficient 11th - 12th graders and we get them caught up in time to graduate with their classmates.
Most of our students are minority, low socioeconomic groups and need our intensive remediation to graduate. They may have made poor choices at some critical times in the past but our program instills positive skills and patterns. I see our students as "MY kids" and I treat them with respect but also with positive discipline methods. They get individual support as well as team building skills that are so necessary for their entire lifetime.
I grew up in a housing project back East and use much of my life experience to encourage and cajole our students to believe that anything is possible if they continue a life-long pursuit of education and learning!
My students need two Chromebooks for our at-risk drop-out prevention program. These will be used to allow our students to access the RoadTrip Nation job acquisition program. Our students need this classroom set of Chromebooks to achieve the new Common Core standards and the STEM technology aspect of 21st century education requirements. We have just been chosen by "RoadTrip Nation" as a premiere at-risk classroom for their life experience, job interviewing and life goal setting curriculum. It is necessary for our students to have these Chromebooks to satisfy the computer savvy skills needed for the technology aspects of STEM education requirements. As you can see the Chromebooks would make a huge impact on their education this year.
Our students have been seen as "losers" by other students and even some other teachers.
The addition of Chromebooks to access the RoadTrip Nation skills building program would have an incredible positive effect on their self esteem and their entire future! To participate in the chance of a lifetime and give disadvantaged students a whole new level of hope and encouragement is as they say...priceless!
