Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in lower Fairfield County. Most of our students are on free and reduced lunch and do not have access to after school activities such as sports. Therefore, the items that I am requesting will make a huge difference for my students.
In our school, we have a tiny gym for about 50 students at a time.
Therefore, we spend a lot of time outdoors. Our students do not spend their own time outdoors engaging in physical activities. We are looking for ways to increase physical education engagement in fun and innovative ways! We want to add more activities when we do stations.
I am requesting these items as a way to give students a chance to find a game or activity that they enjoy. If they find something they enjoy, they will be more likely to continue the game and/or activity outside the PE class. Our hope for our students is to be able to live a healthy lifestyle after elementary school and into adulthood. Most of our students live in apartment buildings and do not spend a lot of time outdoors. They do not typically even play team sports. The games that I picked like Kan Jam, bean bag toss, ball hops, and twirl and jump are activities they can play alone and together with friends. My students love choices and the ability to switch activities at their leisure. We want to offer them new ones instead of the same old ones. Unfortunately, our PE budget does now allow for us to be able to add these exciting new items.
