Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in an elementary school with kindergarten students. As a dual language teacher (English/Spanish) my goal is to equip my students with all the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. As they enter my classroom and begin to develop their bi-literacy skills in reading, writing, problem solving and critical thinking, I want to make sure such learning experiences are super fun and engaging!

My students are elementary students in a Title I school.

This means that a high percentage of our students come from low income homes and are either failing or considered at risk of failing to meet current academic standards. They are sweet, kind and happy kids who are not yet aware of any disadvantages they face.

I am pleased to work with teachers and support staff that are committed and kind educators. Our school struggles with a constant lack of materials to support our students' educational needs. I often spend a significant portion of my own salary to create a clean, organized and well supplied classroom for my students to learn in, but there is a constant gap between what would serve my students well and what I can provide.

My Project

The Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats and the Flex-Space Wobble Cushions will give my students choice about their learning experiences in the classroom. These seating options will empower them to make powerful choices about their learning as well as their seating. My students will be able to choose where and when they sit in the classroom so to make their learning experiences the best it can be. They will be able to strengthen their independence, decision making and academic skills.

My kindergarten students learn better when given choices about their learning experiences.
