Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching art in a diverse, and predominantly low income community has opened my eyes, expanded my mind, and strengthened my heart.

My students are amazing.

They are strong and resilient, passionate and quick to defend what they believe in. They are sometimes loud because now I see they are desperate to be heard.

I strive to ensure they always have a plethora of opportunities to explore, create, and ultimately be heard through the ARTS. I also know if they are with me, enhancing their artistic skills, they are not on the street potentially engaging in dangerous behavior(s).

My Project

I am in the process of moving to a choice-based art room! This is very exciting because the students will have more autonomy in both subject matter and material choice.

A wider variety of paints and drawing materials at specialized learning centers will enhance the art-making process for 500+ students throughout the school year.

Additional supplies also help flesh out our art library in which students can borrow supplies for independent work and remote instruction assignments.

I aim to add greater options at the drawing and painting centers specifically. The label maker will help keep our new supplies organized and accessible!
