This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in the South Bronx of New York City. It is a challenging neighborhood in which to grow up, but my students are vibrant and strong and they can succeed despite the odds. Ninety-five percent of our students are Latinx or Black. Many are children of immigrants. They help their parents assimilate into American society while taking care of their schoolwork and their siblings. With every generation that makes it, they will in fact change those odds for the generations that come after them.

My Project

My students work hard and they play hard. They burn through food and drinks very quickly. I want to ensure that they have the energy to practice and be competitive. These multigrain tortilla chips, potato chips, dried fruit, and cassava chips will give them fuel to make it through games. The water will ensure that they are hydrated. The goals of hydration are to delay fatigue, maintain mental focus, regulate body temperature (especially in hot environments), satisfy thirst, and improve the ability to recover from training and competition. This will ensure that my students can continue to play.
