My students amaze me. "Art is my FAVOORRITTTEEEEE!" and "Mrs. L, can I PLEASE come to art EVERYDAY!" My students are talented, willing to learn, and are excited about the projects that are taking place in THEIR art room. The rt room is a magical place where we learn together, become critical thinkers, and travel around the world.
My students bring me pictures from home that are mini versions of the projects we are doing in class.
My students come to school everyday smiling and energetic. My students and I learn and grow in a school that we are proud of.
My Project
In my art classroom, we 'travel the globe' through different artist/ or art making techniques! Third grade will be 'traveling though China' - learning about Chinese Characters and Paper-making! First, we will read the story, "Pet Dragon' by Christoph Niemann; as literacy and art go hand in hand. This story shows many of the Chinese Characters we will be learning and then students will learn about the Chinese culture and paper-making.
Students will learn the process of paper making - classroom style - and will get to make their own paper!
The paper-making mold kits, sponges, and paper pulp are the materials that are needed (and missing) in this paper-making lesson. After the paper is made and has dried, students will be printmaking the Chinese characters learned from the book onto their paper that they made!
