My Students

My school is full inclusion so approximately 20% of the class will be students with special needs, fully immersed in the general education setting. Students work and play together and see no differences in one another. They are helpful, compassionate, and overall sweet to one another (while staying true to their middle school youth with a little bit of crazy mixed in). These kids have been going to school together since kindergarten and have turned into a family type clan with one another.

My Project

This is the first year my school will offer a year-long photography elective class. Last year was the first school year in which the class was offered (for a trimester at a time) and the cameras we have are basic point and shoots, with no ability to change settings, or control any functions.

In order for my students to fully learn and master the fundamentals of photography, they need DSLR cameras.

These cameras would allow them to learn basics, such as controlling the Aperture and shutter speed. Students will work individually as well as in groups to traverse the board topics within photography. They will be able to eventually print their top photographs and learn how to properly mat, before displaying their artwork to the school community, as well as their family and friends. In addition, it would ready them for any high school course they may take in the future!
