Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need crayons, markers, and craft sticks because they love to draw and make pictures! I want to inspire them to be whatever it is that they want to be! They say "If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere you better wake up and pay attention".
My students come from a working class neighborhood, but are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.
School, for some of the students, is a place for safety, love, care, and a place to express themselves. School may be the only place they can speak freely without getting into trouble. My school is full of students with great potential, although many of them have not had the experience and opportunities other children have, these children want to learn and be inspired. My students have had very little exposure to art and culture other than their own. It is a gift to introduce the Arts to these children and watch them grow.
My Project
My students will use the art materials to demonstrate different activities that are hands-on to keep them engaged in learning by allowing them to show their understanding through the Arts. My students will use these materials across the curriculum. For instance they can draw, cut and paste when retelling a story, or cut pieces to show how many in math, or maybe explain the life cycle of a butterfly by drawing and coloring.
My students will be thrilled to receive fantastic art materials such as these items.
Many of them have limited access to these types of hands-on learning experiences outside of the classroom. This donation will help expose my students to not only what they see on TV or around them, but what they can do themselves.
