My students live in an working class neighborhood, however it is an area surrounded by poverty and gang related activity. School is a place where most of the children feel safe, eat meals and learn. For some children it may be there only way of using technology or even being able to speak without being in trouble. Many of the children have special needs, some come from foster homes, some even live in shelters,and some are highly gifted, but all come with a desire to learn. As a teacher I am empowering my students through the Arts and helping my students connect literacy and writing through a creative imagination.
